I grew up amongst artists, which may be why my father wouldn’t let me go to art college in the 1960s. I enjoyed a career in publishing but always promised myself that I would fulfil my ambition when I retired. I studied for a BA at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating in May 2014.
I worked for thirty years as a journalist, editor and publisher. Most of my career was with Scholastic, the American global educational and children’s publisher, where I was Editor in Chief, then Publisher of educational books and magazines. I managed titles such as Art and Design, Child Education, Pictorial Education and Literacy Centres, winning a number of awards from the Publishers’ and Periodical Publishers’ Associations. I was also Editorial Director of the Thorson’s and Grapevine imprints at Thorson’s plc.
