Barnhillies

At Barnhillies we have 247 acres of drumlins and wet lowlands, offering a fine ‘mosaic’ of habitats – rough grassland, grazed drumlins, woodland, ponds, streams and wet low-lying meadows full of cotton grass and bog myrtle.  We have fine views of the Galloway Hills, the Rhinns of Kells and of the Milky Way – we are in one of Europe’s very few Dark Sky Parks.

In the last seven years we have set up bird sanctuaries, dug ponds and ‘scrapes’, fenced off wild flower meadows and planted about 300 indigenous trees.  It has been a joy to see the positive effect this has had on bio-diversity, bringing back species whose habitats had been turned into grazing deserts.
